I already knew this without the study but thought that it was interesting that the politicians’ own studies prove it:

The congressionally-mandated study of the federal “assault weapon” law found that: “At best, the assault weapons ban can have only a limited effect on total gun murders, because the banned weapons were never involved in more than a modest fraction of all gun murders.” (Urban Institute, “Impact Evaluation of the Public Safety and Recreational Firearms Use Protection Act of 1994,” March 13, 1997, p. 3.)

I added a new section on the Principles page named “Firearms/Guns”.  Here is a description of the principle.

Again, I believe that the Constitution is pretty clear.

…the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

I believe that law abiding citizens should not be restricted in the rights to buy, own, or carry firearms.  Common sense education makes total sense.  Should people be educated to utilize firearms?  Yes.

The Constitution outlined it and I believe that common sense backs it up.  Many times we hear about stopping criminals.  If the criminals are willing to break laws against rape, assault, burglary, drugs, and murder do you think that a gun control law is going to concern them?  The only people that are affected by gun control laws are law abiding citizens.

Besides this argument is moot because that was not the reason for the Second Amendment.  Listen to the wisdom of the Founding Fathers:

“The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government” -Thomas Jefferson

“No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms.” (Jefferson Papers, p. 334, C.J. Boyd, 1950)

The Second Amendment was intended as a protection from GOVERNMENT not from intruders.  That is why politicians want to see it removed.  It is a very powerful limitation of power hungry politicians.  That is why the Founding Fathers created the Amendment and we should fight to maintain it.
